Needs > Labels with Leamington LAMP
At Lighthaus Arts, we believe in the power of creativity to foster inclusion and empowerment. That’s why we were thrilled to collaborate with Leamington LAMP on the "Needs Not Labels" project, a National Lottery-funded initiative designed to support autistic and high-anxiety young people through fashion and textiles.
Working alongside the talented team at LAMP, we created a series of workshops where participants could explore practical creative skills, such as sewing, pattern making, screen-printing, embroidery, and crochet. This project encouraged young people to express themselves by customising, repairing, and designing clothing that meets their sensory and personal needs.
The project culminated in an exhibition at Leamington LAMP, where participants proudly displayed their work. Visitors had the chance to witness live embroidery demonstrations and learn more about the sensory needs of autistic individuals through interactive and informative displays. The event not only showcased the talents of these young designers but also opened up important conversations about inclusivity and accessibility in fashion and beyond.
At Lighthaus Arts, we are committed to making the arts more accessible to all. This project is just one part of our broader mission to create spaces where creativity thrives and where people of all backgrounds can engage in artistic expression. In addition to "Needs Not Labels," we are currently researching the feasibility of a large arts centre in central Leamington Spa—a place that would serve as a hub for collaboration, exhibitions, and creative projects like this one.
We are incredibly proud of what this partnership with Leamington LAMP has achieved, and we look forward to continuing to develop projects that empower, inspire, and uplift our community.
